Wherever I roam there is always a memory to take home. Memories from the road are most easily captured with my trusty Winsor Newton watercolor travel set.
Misty Fishing Pier
Painted in Belmar, NJ in roughly 2001 on a visit home to see my folks. It was one of those days where no one in their right mind was on the beach but us. The air was so thick with mist and fog it was actually affecting the paint on the paper. You can see areas of reticulation from the salty air. Love days like those and the treasures they leave behind. | Prints Available.
View from the Green
Nothing spells paradise like river trips in the desert. So peaceful and relaxing to be in such pristine wilderness "away from the things of man." This was painted from one of our many island camp-spots along the Green River through Canyonlands National Park in Utah, USA in May 1993. Such sweet memories of fun, beauty, and friendships each time I look at this painting. | Prints Available.
Foreshadowing
This view of lower Manhattan, NY as painted from Hoboken, NJ across the Hudson River. I painted this just three weeks before 9/11 having no clue what was about to happen to this view. I remember being bummed that I cut off the top of the towers but I was hard pressed on this small 4x6" postcard sized watercolor paper. Every time I look at this piece, it brings me back to that time and place. | Prints Available.
Gulls
Yet another less than ideal beach day in the minds of many. The air was super thick, and the salty mist unleashed magic of its own on the page. Loved these gulls as they looked so stoic, holding their ground amidst the blustering winds, overlooking the crashing waves. | Prints Available.
Clear Magic
Kenai Penninsula, Alaska 2010. We were braced for days of gray and rain yet were blessed with the most gorgeous weather. We had clear views, across Cook Inlet, of the beautiful Mount Redoubt volcano. The first volcano I ever laid eyes on!
Here Lies Peter
I started my first Japanese Fold Moleskin journal and dedicated it solely to Moab, UT. That way this one journal caught every season, mood and adventure in one of my favorite areas on earth. These spreads focus on my son's first mountain bike ride at Slickrock.
Let's Camp here
The christening voyage of my Moab Japanese Fold journal. First camping trip in Moab with our son. Early fall had very bleached out colors and dark stormy accents.
